Group Membership

An organisation-wide professional development offer to promote evidence-informed practice.

Group membership of the Chartered College of Teaching is one of the most important levers available to school leaders seeking to raise the status of the profession, through empowering their own staff and underlining the importance of belonging to a professional body. It also serves as a powerful mechanism for professional learning and development.

Investment in group membership is an investment in your students, your staff, your organisation and the wider profession. In an ever-changing educational landscape, group membership provides accredited, rigorous and accessible CPD and resources, for teachers at every stage of their career, and provides tools to engage in research to drive sustainable school improvement.

Group membership with the Chartered College offers learning as a wider trust team which builds our collective wisdom and helps us develop a shared language to drive school improvement. It’s incredibly powerful.
Nicki Antwis
Executive Director of Learning, Diocese of Bristol Academies Trust
Chartered College group membership has inspired and motivated teachers to develop their practice and share this with colleagues both inside and outside of their schools.

Principal Deputy Head (Curricular), Harrow International School Hong Kong
We love hearing from schools and trusts how powerful group membership is: as a mechanism for school improvement, model for staff CPD, driver of retention, or even just as a positive signal of “how we do things here” to staff. If you’re committed to evidence-informed practice, Chartered College group membership underscores that commitment perfectly.

Associate Director - Partnerships, Chartered College of Teaching

  • Numerous studies have shown that continuing professional development (CPD), which provides opportunities for collaboration and critical reflection, can positively impact teacher effectiveness and student learning (Fletcher-Wood & Zuccollo, 2020; Kennedy, 2016; Sims et al., 2021)
  • Teachers working in supportive professional environments develop further than their peers (Kraft & Papay, 2014)
  • The Chartered College of Teaching is your professional body for teaching, a not-for-profit charity independent of government, and a “trusted broker of evidence” (EEF, 2021) on what makes teaching and leadership most effective.
