What you’ll learn

This certified CPD unit will guide you through the process of reviewing your existing CPD provision. You’ll undertake a rigorous evaluation of professional development in your setting, examining your it through a range of lenses, including:

  • Understanding staff CPD needs
  • Approaches to developing internal expertise
  • Use of external expertise, research and evidence
  • Opportunities to maximise time for CPD
  • Evaluating the impact of CPD

You will engage with key education research to build your understanding of the evidence-base, using this alongside the findings of your evaluation to inform strategic development activity with the goal of strengthening and refining your CPD provision.

This is an assessed unit, requiring you to submit a CPD review portfolio incorporating two written reflections, an action plan and a short recorded video presentation. The assessment has been designed to support school development in a meaningful way, with the option to focus on developing an aspect of professional development that you think will make a difference for your context. Successful completion of the assessment provides 20 credits towards Chartered Teacher (Leadership) Status. Detailed assessment guidance, supporting tools and templates are provided.

The CPD review provided a timely catalyst for the evaluation of the CPLD offer at our school and became a collective endeavour with my senior team.
